Two opera singers in formal attire performing an emotional duet scene with dramatic golden and blue brushwork background.

We’re diving into timeless arias from Giacomo Puccini’s opera Madama Butterfly.

Madama Butterfly is a tragic opera, composed by Giacomo Puccini and premiered in 1904. It tells the story of Cio-Cio-San (Madama Butterfly), a young Japanese geisha abandoned by her American naval officer husband, Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton. Puccini sampled both Japanese and American music in this opera. In fact, you can hear the US national anthem early in the opera.

Here’s “Vogliatemi bene” (“Love me well”)

It’s a passionate love duet where the couple declares their devotion under the stars, blending tenderness with Pinkerton’s superficial affection and Butterfly’s genuine commitment. Listen for the purity of Butterfly’s love and the insincerity of Pinkerton’s (who is an antagonist in this opera). #TimelessArias
