    I much enjoy you column and the beautiful music. I am on the faculty at Columbia, so my retirement funds are tied up with TIAA, otherwise I would give it all to you! Anyone so civilized must be first rate.

    Barber’s Adagio is in my top 20 classical music pieces. While it’s probably been arranged for other instruments more than any other piece, the original quartet version, for me, is best. As a Vietnam vet it has special meaning for me in that it was used so well in the movie Platoon.
