We are continuing our exploration of 2nd movements of romantic piano concertos with Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2. #PianoAdagios
Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 is structured in four movements; thus the adagio is actually in the third, not the second, movement. Dedicated to his teacher Eduard Marxsen, it was premiered on November 9, 1881, in Budapest, with Brahms himself as soloist, with the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, receiving immediate success and acclaim across Europe—unlike his first concerto.
