What makes one gifted performer touch you, and another leave no impression? I don’t know. Music, just like any art, is highly personal. Also, I have realized that art – be it a book, a painting, or a piece of music – has to come into your life at the right time, when you are ready for it, to touch you. The fact that art touches is often as much a reflection of your state of mind as it is about the art itself.
I was really touched by Angel Blue, the American soprano, performing an aria from La Bohème. This aria sent me deep into the entrails of YouTube to listen to every single piece Angel Blue ever sang.
There are few opera singers I am crazy about – Anna Netrebko and Maria Callas are the ones that immediately come to mind.
And now I add Angel Blue to this list. Instead of my trying to describe her voice, listen to these arias.
